Christmas Charity Advent

The weather has turned, Christmas ads are on the telly, advent calendars have been opened and the shops are full of people frantically trying to find the best gift or the best bargain.  It’s a busy time of year but the real spirit of Christmas is cherishing peace and goodwill and giving to those less fortunate.  We love helping charities promote their work, we’re always inspired by the work they do and the personal stories we hear and as we prepare for the festive season and reflect on 2014, we felt compelled to tell our clients that we' Love What You Do'.  So, this year we

Charity Video Production Guide

Over the past 14 years that we’ve been working with charity clients in producing fundraising, educational and legacy videos, we’ve found it useful to outline the process that we go through to producing a film. Clear communication and good early planning are vital in ensuring that the best possible footage is obtained and that the final film fulfils the charity’s brief – delivering a strong and engaging message and a clear ask.

Inclusion of Elders into Society

Last Sunday I had the opportunity to assist Phil in filming for Contact The Elderly. Contact The Elderly is a charity that focuses on tackling loneliness and social isolation among older people. They organise Sunday afternoon tea parties for people aged 75 and over who live alone with little or no support from family or friends. The filming consisted creating an overview of the Sunday tea parties and looking at why the event is so important for the guests, as well as for the volunteers.

For us at Purple Flame, that is very much at the heart of what we do, in creating impactful films that give a voice to the voiceless.

Voice for the voiceless

I suspect many of you will have seen the ill-advised comments by the new civil society minister, Brooks Newmark, when he told charities that they should ‘”stick to knitting and keep out of politics.”

Buckets of ice, water and videos

For the last few weeks, you can't log into Facebook or other social media without being confronted with reams of posts from people uploading their video of the Ice Bucket challenge - often called the ALS ice bucket challenge. Like the "no-make-up selfie" trend that was popular a few months ago, what has been impressive has not only been the speed at which the campaign has spread but also for the fact that this was not initiated directly by a charity - it's come by viral sharing and at some point has been linked with support for ALS research.
