Behind the Scenes

Designing a Video Rich Website

This week we’ve launched the new Purple Flame Media website.  After several months of planning and designing the site it’s great to see it live.  As a video production company a key requirement for us was to build a visually creative website which effectively showcased our videos whilst also providing useful & fresh content and being fully responsive to work on all devices.  In this week’s blog we’re looking at the process of defining our requirements, sourcing a web development partner and designing the new video rich site.

Internship Final Day

Seven weeks have flown by. To be completely honest, the four months I've been in London have gone by much quicker than expected. It's hard to believe I am done my time here at Purple Flame and I will be flying back to the States in less than 48 hours. I've really enjoyed interning here and have learned so much.

Experimenting with Video Animation

In my second to last week of my internship at Purple Flame I had the opportunity to play around with Adobe After Effects and its 3D animation features. Just for some practice, we decided to try making a 10-second paper cut animation video. Besides doodling in class, I had never done any sort of drawing or animation before, so I wasn't quite sure how the process worked. To break it down, here is a step-by-step process of what we did, which I think can apply to any future animation projects I do.

Forgotten conflicts

It is just over a decade since I boarded the Air Kenya flight with several bags of equipment and boxes of digital video tape, alongside with co-directors Jay and Ray on the way to Rwanda to film Lesley Bilinda's story.

Post production on All We Can’s charity re-brand film

Our latest charity film was produced to support the re-brand of MRDF to become All We Can.  Our last blog talked about the background to the project and our filming trips to Burundi and Nepal and in this blog we look at post production from both a director and an intern's perspective.

Internship Week One

I'm now wrapping up week one of seven of my internship here at Purple Flame Media. Being a Media Arts and Entertainment student at Elon University, I'm excited to learn more about production and post production. So far, I'm loving the experience and have already learned a lot. In just three days, I've logged video, looked into website design, and animated in AfterEffects (something I've never done before- but look forward to learning more about!) Another great accomplishment as an American studying abroad in the UK is I've made my first cup of tea. So there's that.

Charity video engages with supporters to 'Help Us Grow'

Mothers' Union is an international Christian membership charity that works around the world to promote stable marriage, family life and the protection of children.  In the UK and Ireland there are four million members, Mothers' Union provides them with a community network for prayer, financial support and the ability to actively work in programmes that meet local needs.

Internship Review

Wow, I can’t believe that my time at Purple Flame is already coming to an end.  Interning here has been an amazing experience, and I have been given so many opportunities in such a short period of time.  It was great to be able to see both the business/PR side and production side of the company.

Avanade: Behind the camera

Today was our third day of filming for Avanade, a company that works with businesses to enhance their technology services.  Over the three days, I have had the opportunity to learn a lot about not only filming, but also a lot about the technology industry.
